You're Probably Wondering... Who is Valerie, Anyways?

All About Me

I’m a bilingual registered psychologist with the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists. Born and raised in northern Quebec, I’ve been living and practicing in Saskatoon for the past decade. I provide individual and couples counselling for adults (18+) and have experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds and concerns. I also have a special focus on the perinatal population.

My passion for psychology and mental health started early in life. I’ve always been fascinated by the human mind—why we think, act, and feel the way we do. People are incredibly complex and interesting! For as long as I can remember, I knew I wanted to work with others and help them create meaningful lives. After years of education and training, when I finally started providing therapy, I was hooked. It felt natural—like I had found my place.

I feel privileged to hear my clients’ stories and to sit with them as they explore their inner worlds, navigate challenges, and work toward living their best lives. It’s an honour to be trusted with their experiences. Every day, I am in awe of the strength, resilience, and courage I see in my clients—their ability to be vulnerable in the face of adversity and their commitment to healing and growth. I learn from every person I work with, and I truly couldn’t ask for a more fulfilling career.

A few things about me:

  • I learned English as an adult at 22—so yes, I still have an accent!

  • I love bringing people together and fostering a sense of community.

  • Before becoming a psychologist, I worked as an esthetician, a cook, and a safety watch.

  • I participated in a humanitarian project in the Dominican Republic, building houses and running summer camps for children.

  • I’ve lived in four different provinces: Quebec, Alberta, Ontario, and Saskatchewan.

My Counselling Style

Respect, warmth, non-judgment, and empathy form the foundation of my approach. I take an active and collaborative role in my work, ensuring that my clients feel heard, valued, and supported. My goal is to meet you where you are—with humility, compassion, and an open mind. The therapeutic relationship is sacred to me, and I hold it with care.

I incorporate a variety of therapeutic approaches because I believe talk therapy alone isn’t always enough to create lasting change. I integrate experiential methods like art therapy and sandtray, as well as body-focused approaches such as Somatic Experiencing and EMDR. These methods help bridge the mind-body connection, supporting healing and well-being. I firmly believe in the brain’s natural resilience and its ability to heal with the right support.

Starting therapy—whether it’s your first time or not—can feel vulnerable and even overwhelming. My hope is that our time together helps you better understand yourself, your patterns, and your emotions while providing you with a safe space for healing and growth.

What To Expect in Counselling

Therapy isn’t always easy—it can bring up painful memories, frustrations, and emotions. This is a normal part of the healing journey.

As your psychologist, I won’t make decisions for you. Only you know what’s best for your life. While it might be tempting to want someone to “fix” your problems, growth comes from learning how to navigate challenges yourself. My role is to explore possibilities with you and help develop strategies that work for you.
